Shade wasn't built in a boardroom. It was built in the back of a ute, on job sites, and on early mornings before the tools came out - by a bloke who believed he could build something better. No investors, no head office. Just Sammy, a bloke from the Gold Coast willing to have a go.
I'm Sam - founder of Shade. A real bloke who was laying pipes and digging holes every day, and building a sunglasses brand every night.
Shade started as a side hustle because I couldn't find a pair of sunnies that could handle the way I actually live. Whether I was on the tools or on surf trips, I needed a pair that could keep up.
Four years later, what started as a mucking around idea between jobs has turned into a brand built on the same thing that got me through a trade: put in the work, don't cut corners, and back yourself when nobody else will.

The Gold Coast lifestyle is baked into how we design and test every pair - because if it can't handle a full day in the surf, sun, and sweat here, it's not going out the door.
We're not going to bang on about it - but we care about the ocean because it's the reason most of us picked up a pair of sunnies in the first place. We're proud partners of Sea Shepherd Australia, and we keep our packaging and materials as low-impact as we can. We'd rather just do our best and get on with it than make a big song and dance about it.
